Feeling Artsy: Egg Carton Caterpillar

Will and I love love love The Very Hungry Caterpillar, so we decided to make our own little caterpillars this morning.

The materials:

Before getting started, we decided to read The Very Hungry Caterpillar (for inspiration, of course). Then I cut the bottom of the egg carton into two long sections (one is pictured below).

Will was the painter. He did an awesome job, and he had so much fun. After painting the caterpillar's red head, he painted the body of the caterpillar green. He was so particular. I don't think he missed a spot.

We had a second strip to paint, so Will decided to use lots of different colors for that one. It's kind of his signature style.

After they dried, I inserted the tip of the scissors to make two tiny holes, and then we took a piece of a pipe cleaner and put it through to make the antennae. We also added yellow spots to the top of our hungry caterpillar and gave him a little yellow trim around the edges. Finally, I painted his eyes (Will wanted to use the wiggly eyes for the other caterpillar), and we were all set.

After his fun morning in the studio, my little artist requested sushi and blueberries for lunch. Doesn't everyone serve sushi on a Batman plate? :)
